About Freemasonry
Freemasonry is an "art", which through a series of psychodramatic representations, which follow ancient and accepted types and use the traditions and tools of ancient builders as allegorical guides, teaches moral and spiritual values.
The global fraternity of men, who are particularly interested in these values, belong to the Craft, that is, an organization with a specific structure and rules. This particular structure and specific rules are the same for all regular masons in the world.
These rules have existed, at least since the 14th century (manuscripts of Regius and Cooke), and are found in various manuscripts or forms, abbreviated as Ancient Duties, which evolved into the Landmarks.
Landmarks include principles commonly accepted and unchanged over time. Based on these and the tectonic tradition, the Constitutions and the rules that govern the operation of the Craft were created.
Brotherly Love
A Freemason must not only tolerate but deeply respect all views and show courtesy and understanding towards all his fellow human beings.
Truth
A Freemason seeks for the Truth, aiming to reach high moral standards, intended to be emulated in his life.
Charity
The Freemason must be interested not only in his family affairs, but has to participate in the general community and to assist anyone in need of help. He must practice charity by offering either money or personal volunteer work.
Freemasonry and Religion
Freemasonry is neither a Religion, nor a substitute for Religion. However, the first essential qualification required of its members is belief in a Supreme Being.
Therefore Freemasonry can be open to men of different Religions, each of whom is expected to continue following his personal faith.
Moreover, discussions on religious issues are strictly forbidden during freemasonry sessions.
Freemasonry and society
Freemasons are obligated to fully respect the laws of the country where they live and work, and Freemasonry's authorities encourage them to perform their public and private duties diligently.
The use of the Masonic status for the promotion of personal or professional interests, of the mason himself or of anyone else, is clearly condemnable and contrary to the obligations he undertook when he became a member. His duty as a citizen must always take precedence over his obligations to other masons.
Any attempt to defend another mason who has committed illegal or dishonest acts is contrary to the teachings of Freemasonry.
Freemasonry does not interfere in politics and all political discussions are forbidden in its sessions.
Secrets
Freemasonry is not a secret company, but a philosophical-research and charity aimed organisation. There are no secrets regarding its purposes and principles. Its members are free to disclose their status. Also its Principles and Constitutions are accessible to the public.
However, like many other organizations and within the framework of well-meaning civil rights in a democratic society, it considers some of its internal affairs as private matters concerning only its members.
The secrets of Freemasonry are related to traditional ways of identification between members, which remain unchanged from time immemorial and do not contain any information or messages
